Heinz Vater:
Zur Entwicklung der Generativen Grammatik in Deutschland

Abstract:
Preliminary remarks on Structural Grammar and its various schools are followed by a sketch of the development of Generative Grammar (GG) by Noam Chomsky, from the early period (characterized by Chomskys Syntactic Structures) through the classical period (Aspects of the Theory of Syntax) and the Principle and Parameters Theory up to the Minimalist Program. The second part gives an outline of the development of GG in Germany; emphasis is put on the fact that the occupation with GG started in East Germany (where later on it was strongly inhibited) and spread from there to West Germany.
