Vit  Dovalil & Adéla Hall:
Zu den deutsch-tschechischen Sprachenkonflikten um die Sprachenverordnungen Badenis

Abstract:
The paper deals with German-Czech language conflicts concerning Badeni’s language regulations in 1897. The analysis of these conflicts is based on Language Management Theory, which enables the structuring of the dynamics of the conflicts and the identification of their substance. What both language communities had in common was the sensitivity of and the ideology in the discourses concerning the official lan¬guage. On the other hand, the German and Czech language communities differ from each other in their evaluation of the official language use before 1897 when Badeni’s language regulations were to be introduced, as well as in their evaluations. The unsuccessful implementation of the regulations was caused by the unequal power relations between the two language communities.
