Irma Szikszai-Nagy:
On the rhetoric and stylistics of interrogative figures
Abstract:
All utterances that have the interrogative form but do not belong to the speech act of questions are interrogative figures. Based on the experience gained from studying linguistic data we formulated a group of criteria to investigate the various types of interrogative figures: structure; acoustic properties; linguistic properties; viewpoint; function in the text; semantic-pragmatic role and effect; subtypes; connection with text type, style and communicative scenario; figure-inclusion; operation that creates the figure; homogeneity and semantic relationship between figures; self-value or transformation of figures; similarity or contrast with other figures.
